Greetings!
Whether you’re a visitor, new to our school, already a valued member of our school community, or an alumnus looking to see what’s happening, we welcome you.
At St. Brigid, we look ahead to the future but also celebrate the 100+ years of Catholic education in our parish. Our work here is tied to two great educational traditions: that of our founders, the Sisters of Mercy, and that of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits).
The Mercy tradition is rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ and the heritage of the Catholic Church. It is a call to serve others, treating them with reverence, hospitality, and justice. With special sensitivity to the needs of children, and the sharing of life-changing spiritual formation, the tradition embodies a willingness to work with all persons who seek truth and moral values.
The Jesuit educational vision, which stretches back nearly 500 years, is built around a care for the individual person, an aim to develop the whole person, heart, mind and soul, and a goal to instill in students a desire for doing and being “the magis”, the very best they can be. All this is directed for the greater glory of God -“Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam” – AMDG. It is expressed in the forming of people for and with others – people who share their gifts, pursue justice, and have concern for the poor and marginalized. The goal of Jesuit education is the formation of agents for positive change in our world.
We provide a quality, contemporary education in all the ways that will prepare students for their futures. We have testimony that St. Brigid graduates are very well prepared academically, spiritually, personally, and socially to succeed in high school. As St. Ignatius said, "Give me a child until he [or she] is seven, and I will show you what the [adult] will be."
Here at Our Lady of Hope Parish, we call St. Brigid School “our largest and most visible ministry.” We proudly serve a regional community of people throughout southern Maine and from a variety of faith traditions. Thank you for your interest.
Peace,
Rev. Paul M. Sullivan, S.J. DMin. - Pastor
