The Early Childhood Program at St. Brigid School contributes to the mission by beginning the process of forming children in the Catholic faith. By sharing stories of Jesus and teaching concepts such as kindness, and inclusion, our program offers opportunities to engage in age-appropriate activities in creative play and academics. This includes early literacy, math, foreign language, music & movement, art, and religion in the classroom. Additional focused instruction time for gym and music ensures children are fully prepared for kindergarten. Teacher-guided and student-driven learning centers as well as play-based instruction, reflect a responsive and inclusive environment that sets the foundation for learning and supports the mission of the school. Teachers educate the whole child to be lifelong-learners.
Our teachers believe that all students are individuals and should be challenged based on each one's abilities. Young children learn best in a welcoming, compassionate, supportive environment. Building community is a component of this type of environment, so opportunities for younger students to buddy with older students in the form of reading, prayer and church buddies support this and match the mission of St. Brigid School. Beginning at preschool, parents partner with teachers to help children gain a sense of independence
The program introduces students to the expectations of being part of the community. Students are prepared academically, socially, and emotionally to seamlessly transition to Kindergarten. We are a licensed Child Care Facility by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
